Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Void Note ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

These Terms apply to the Void Note Android application (package com.greenicephoenix.voidnote) and the associated website at voidnote.app. The App is developed and maintained by GreenIcePhoenix ("Developer", "I", "we").

2. Description of the App

Void Note is a privacy-focused note-taking application for Android that provides:

• Encrypted local note storage with AES-256-GCM encryption
• Rich text editing with formatting, checklists, and media attachments
• Vault-based security with biometric and password authentication
• Folder and tag-based note organisation
• Import/export functionality for note backup and portability

The App is currently in alpha. Features may change, be added, or be removed. We will announce significant changes through the in-app changelog.

3. License to Use

Subject to these Terms, GreenIcePhoenix grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on Android devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use.

The App's source code is publicly available on GitHub. Your rights regarding the source code are governed by the licence specified in the repository. Personal use of the App itself does not require attribution.

You may not:

• Sell, sublicence, or redistribute the App without permission
• Use the Void Note name, logo, or brand assets for commercial purposes without written permission
• Reverse-engineer the App for malicious purposes (security research is encouraged — see Section 9)

4. Your Notes and Content

You own your notes completely. All notes, media, and vault contents created in Void Note belong to you. GreenIcePhoenix makes no claim to any content you create.

Because the App stores all data locally on your device and we have no server, we physically cannot access your notes. There is no mechanism for us to read, modify, or delete your notes remotely.

You are solely responsible for:

• Maintaining backups of your notes (use Settings → Export Backup)
• The security of your device and vault password
• Any content you create and store in the App
• Ensuring your use of the App complies with applicable laws

Data loss: GreenIcePhoenix is not responsible for data loss resulting from device failure, uninstallation, forgotten vault passwords, or any other cause. We strongly recommend regular encrypted backups.

5. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use the App to:

• Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation
• Store, distribute, or facilitate content that is illegal in your jurisdiction
• Attempt to exploit, attack, or compromise the App's security features with malicious intent
• Circumvent or disable the encryption or authentication mechanisms for malicious purposes

Since the App stores data locally on your device only, enforcement of these terms is practical only in the context of how you export, share, or distribute content created with the App.

6. Premium Features and In-App Purchases

The current version of Void Note is entirely free. A future premium tier is planned that will offer optional paid features including cloud backup, cross-device sync, and advanced customisation. These terms will apply to premium purchases:

• Free Trial: A 7-day free trial will be offered for premium features. Your payment method will be charged at the end of the trial unless cancelled.
• Subscription pricing: Subject to change with 30 days notice to active subscribers.
• Refunds: Refund requests for the Android App are handled by Google Play under Google's refund policy. Contact Google Play support for refunds.
• Free tier protection: Core note-taking features will remain free indefinitely. Premium features are additive enhancements, not gates on existing functionality.
• Account deletion: If you delete your account (future cloud feature), your encrypted data on Google Drive will also be deleted. Local notes are unaffected.

No in-app purchases exist in the current alpha version. This section applies to future releases only.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GREENICEPHOENIX DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
• Warranties that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
• Warranties regarding the accuracy or completeness of any content

The App is in alpha. Bugs exist. Data loss is possible (though we work hard to prevent it). Back up your notes regularly using the built-in export feature.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GREENICEPHOENIX SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

9. Security Research

We welcome responsible security research on Void Note. The App is open source, so you can audit the code directly. If you discover a security vulnerability:

• Please report it by opening a GitHub issue or contacting via GitHub
• Give us reasonable time to address the issue before public disclosure
• Do not exploit the vulnerability to access other users' data (this isn't possible for local-only storage, but applies to future cloud features)

We genuinely appreciate security research and will credit researchers who responsibly disclose issues.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, particularly when premium features are added. Changes will be communicated via:

• An update to this page with a new "Last Updated" date
• An in-app changelog entry for significant changes
• A GitHub repository release note

Continued use of the App after Terms are updated constitutes acceptance. If you disagree with updated Terms, stop using the App and delete your data.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. Any disputes arising from these Terms or use of the App shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation first. For unresolved disputes, the jurisdiction of the Developer's country of residence applies.

If you are using the App in the European Union, the EU consumer protection regulations apply to you in addition to these Terms.
